There are many causes of infertility. Our Dallas, Texas fertility treatment center educates patients about the common factors that cause reproductive complications.
There are many causes of infertility. The first simple division of course will be between male and female factors. Male infertility impacts on at least half of the couples and a quarter of those cases it is the only cause of infertility that is seen. The two most common female factors would be problems with fallopian tubes or the anatomy of the pelvis, secondly problems with ovulation or hormone disturbances. Less common causes of infertility would include cervical factor, immunologic infertility, and finally unexplained infertility in 15 to 20 percent of patients. Even though we do a thorough evaluation, we do not identify a specific cause. It does not mean we cannot help the couple with unexplained infertility. It is just that we cannot put our finger on the direct cause. I think it is very important for the patients to realize that being infertile is not something that they are only ones going through. Infertility affects probably 15 to 20 percent of our population and even though your friends and associates may not be talking about their own reproductive difficulty, the odds are many people that you see every day are going through a similar situation as yourself.
