Egg donation recipients receiving donated eggs can experience a wonderful pregnancy.   Women are able to go through the entire three trimesters and experience the joys of their unborn child growing inside of them.  Woman who cannot conceive naturally are usually the ones that volunteer to receive eggs from another donor.  Some of the reasons they cannot conceive include endometriosis, ineffective egg production or experiencing menopause before their time.

Donating eggs for another woman to conceive a child is not easy.  There is quite a bit involved in the process.  Egg donation recipients must undergo testing to make sure that they are healthy.  They must also be able to carry a baby to term (all three trimesters).

Egg donation recipients should also be tested for their mental state.  They will have a consultation with a psychiatrist to make sure that they are emotionally fit to handle the pregnancy.  The psychiatrist will also provide counseling for them.  The counseling can help recipients with the reality of bearing someone else’s egg for their own benefit.

Background information on the egg donors will be provided to the egg donation recipients.  It is an extensive and thorough background that includes psychological, genetic, medical, educational and professional information about them.  The background also provides their family history so that you will know any specifics about them.  Even with that explicit information, some recipients do not want to use egg donors that they don’t know.  They would be more comfortable using donors like friends and family.  It’s really up to them as to who they want to use.

After the selection of the egg donors, the retrieval of the donor eggs will start.  After the eggs have been retrieved, they are secured and fertilized.  The fertility specialist will know when the embryo is ready to be transplanted into the uterus of the egg donation recipients.

Egg donation recipients will be able to take a pregnancy test after the transplant has been completed.  They have to keep in mind that this is an emotional, time consuming and draining process.  They must be able to handle all of the pros and cons that come with receiving another donor’s egg.
